Movie Review: "Where the Wild Things Are"

source

Joshua: Hey, what did you watch today?
Jefry: Where the Wild Things Are..
Joshua: How was it? I really want to see it.
Jefry: Let's get this out of the way -- it's definitely not a children film. In fact, I'd say it's a film about childhood? It's a lot darker than your average chick flicks.

Joshua: They promote it as if it's a kids' movie though.
Jefry: Precisely. The kids in my theater were getting restless and all. The movie felt long at times and it's largely plotless. But the film looked really good though, I particularly loved the natural colour palate and the creatures were surprisingly photo-real.

Joshua: So was it bad?
Jefry: Well, no. Where the Wild Things Are offers some fun sequences. It's attention to details is amazing, so kudos to whoever is responsible for the set design and cinematography. I felt that the movie was at its best whenever Max is around his mother, there were some incredibly raw moments. The young actor who played Max was extremely charming.

Joshua: Please sum up the movie in less than 7 words.
Jefry: It's a sweet movie.

Joshua: It sounds good. What would you score the film out of 10?
Jefry: I don't know. 7, maybe? Anyhow, the film is probably more appealing to grown-ups, considering the nostalgic factor of the movie. I figure kids are going to enjoy Pixar's UP better.

Editor's note: This conversation is fictional, duh. Who the fuck speaks like that in real life?!

Fashion + Maths = Fashematics

Chanel, pre-Fall 2010 and Gareth Pugh, SS 2010 RTW

Jean Paul Gaulter, Fall 2009 RTW and Christian Dior, Fall 2009 Couture

Are the people at Fashematics geniuses or what? Everything in the equations seem so smart. Now, i wonder if those are the true inspirations behind the collection. (lol, obviously i know they're not!)

For more Fashematics fun, visit FASHEMATICS!

ps: I can post this under Art because Lady Gaga calls her music art so why can't this be art?!

Gift/ Christmas Post/ I'm bad with titles

Besides your birthday, there aren't many other occasions when you can make a list of all the things you want without getting judged for being materialistic or whatever people like to say.

Henrik Vibskov D Jacket in Blue (cute model not included) and Raf Simons High Top Sneakers, both from Forward by Revolve
Raf Simons Mirror Brooch and Ann Demeulemeester Military Style Wool Cardigan, both from Browns
Illustrations by Kate Sutton

So this is my Christmas list, and obviously I can't afford any of the stuff here right now, and sadly, no one loves me enough to buy any of them for me.

But realistically, I'd be happy with anything, like these omg stunningly chic toys from Muji.

Hello solar system? How cool is that?!

Train station, Airport and Dock wooden toy sets

And they are pretty affordable gifts too (is anybody reading this?!).

totes sorrows

I haven't posted in a week again. I'm really busy with school and I haven't spoken to Jefry for a long time since he's Indonesia (i hope he hasn't died!), but i spent $300 today so I have a new purchase post to make!

Watering Down

omg i've been so busy i haven't had time to update. i haven't gone shopping in three weeks, and although i've watched shows like The Hills and The City, and the final episode of ANTM, I haven't had the time to screencap those and write stuff about them.

So enough about me, and to shoes!

Christian Dior Fall 2007
source style.com

Ok, almost everyone should know that this is one of my favourite collections from Dior since I had a picture of the ad in my file for almost a year. And of course, if I like this collection, it's pretty obvious I like the Spring 2007 Couture collection from Dior too, since this is pretty much the same, but watered down.

Watered down version.
source thecookiejar

Anyway, I found this picture while reading thecookiejar. I remember being obsessed with this pair of shoes because they had them in almost every colour and they were hot favourites with magazines. (and i had the ad in my file, always remember that!)

Can you imagine how disappointed I was to see that? I remembered playing with the green pair in Dior 2 years ago (they were selling at half price) and I don't remember the heel being so short so i don't know.

SO POINT IS: Shoes should be painful and pretty and for people to look at. If you want comfort go look at crocs or uggs or whatever.

ok since i'm at it let's compare what i have in my wardrobe to runway pieces. erm, almost all of them are from the marc by marc jacobs spring 2008 collection (another favourite of mine).

ANTM: Hawaiian Hip-Hop

America's Next Top Model Cycle 13: Hawaiian Hip-Hop
source LA Times

This episode is kinda boring if you're expecting girl drama and all. But if you're like me, and you like watching the girls dance, then you're in for a treat. I really loved the challenge, where the girls did the Hawaiian hulu-hip-hop, and of course since they're not really dancers, it was fall-off-your-seat funny.

The City: Friends and Foe-Workers

source MTV

Drama ensues in The City, and another city. The girls are, coincidentally, all sent to Miami Fashion Week. The star for this episode has to be Kelly. It's like she ate five children and she's still hungry.

'Desperate Housewives' Recap: The Grudge

Desperate Housewives Season 6 Episode 7: Careful The Things You Say
source ABC

Desperate Housewives is one of Word-Vomiting's favourite shows, and we feel that this week's episode is kind of underwhelming, considering the fantastic episodes we've been getting this season. We do, however, learn that Angie is a great cook, and she's taking Katherine's old job. How very Italian of her.

Coolness

Maison Martin Margiela "Watch"
source THECORNER

I've been pretty obsessed with this "watch" by Margiela but obviously I'd never pay EUR250 for that. So the next best thing would be to ask my dad to make one for me (he makes watches) but I haven't gotten around to that.

source jak & jil

Anyway, how cool would it be to wear a watch with that? So you'd look like you're wearing two watches but there's only one, you get the idea.

Givenchy Canvas Tote and Ann Demeulemeester High Tops
source luisaviaroma & Browns

I wish I could afford to spend £565 on shoes but obviously I can't, so the next best thing would be to post it here so I can look at them everyday after visiting my shopping baskets at those websites.

'ANTM' Recap: Free-diving

America's Next Top Model Cycle 13: Dive Deeper
source LA Times

I really am a sucker for reality television, mainly because of the fact that I take great delight in the misfortunes of others. Hence, imagine the look on my face when Sundai vaguely mentions she grew up in foster care. She promises to share the full story of her plight if she makes it to the top 4. It's probably a very juicy story as she mentions, "Get tissues." Cue sad music. Cue close-ups of Sundai's face. And then the camera cut to her sucking her thumb like a vulnerable little girl. We are only 3 minutes into the episode and emotions are already blowing out of proportions.

Wasting Money Online

The stuff i ordered online previously have finally arrived. So after finishing all my school work, I braved the rain in a ~chic wolf~ outfit (oversized grey sweater, really Missoni F/W 2009) to collect my shoes that came in a huge ass box.

ASOS Leather Perforated Lace-Up Shoes worn with green socks from Uniqlo

The shoes were a size bigger but they fit well and they're comfortable. And they were only £23. Gee, my ankles look so tan.

Other than those shoes, my stuff from Etsy also came on the same day, but they were small enough to be placed in the mailbox so i got them on Tuesday night when I came home from school. Coming home to packages are so exciting, it's almost as good as getting an orgasm, just saying.

The tuna can brooch was really nice but it wasn't a pin at the back so I kinda ruined it when i tried removing the clip. Dang. And the corsage pin thing was kinda different from the picture so I screamed "SCAMMERS!" when I opened it.

My mom's reaction to the corsage pin was "I'll show you how to make one when i find some cloth on Saturday." lol love it.

The Hills: I'm Done With You

Seriously, how many times have we heard "I'm done with you!" or "I can't do this anymore!" from Audrina.

source MTV

In this episode, there are many of those classic bitching scenes which are so typical of The Hills.

Project Runway: The Best of The Best

Design by Logan
source Lifetime

I just watched Project Runway and I'm crying and shaking. How could they?! I see a little Karl Lagerfeld in that dress, so how can that be a bad thing?! I'm so emotional i can't even talk about the drama in the episode.

The Hills Recap: Sorry Boo, Strike Two

I'm writing a recap on Halloween because it's raining really heavily and i can't give out candy to kids, and i don't have plans too, so here I am.

images from MTV

The Hills this week was made interesting by my one of new favourites, Holly Montag. But before we focus on my new favourite characters (yes, there's more than one), we have to give some attention to the ones I hate.

Unexpectedly Stunning

My shopping trips always end up disappointing (unless I'm overseas duh). So today is absolutely stunning because my class started an hour late and ended in an hour. And because it was too early to head back home at 10.30am, i decided to have an impromptu shopping trip.

Navy Bold Stripe Blazer by Topman and Slouchy Grey Sweater by Topman Ltd

The blazer was marked down from $259 to $49 and it's in my size. Stunning eh?

And because of the UK Postal Strike, the stuff I previously ordered from Etsy is not going to arrive anytime soon. Damn.

Adam Vs. Rihanna

Both singers unveil the covers of their forthcoming albums on the same day. Both 'For Your Entertainment' and 'Rated R' are slated for a November release. And things get a tad too creepy when both singers are striking the same pose. Judge for yourselves.

For your entertainment. Not.
source EW

Scarred for eternity, Rihanna shows a darker side to her.
source PopEater

While it's understandable that Rihanna is trying to cover the external wounds on her face, Adam Lambert has no excuse of making the same pose. I prefer Rihanna's grittier look, and apparently she has a new-found love for masochism (she's wearing a torture glove/device of some sort). That "Hit Me Baby One More Time" cover is definitely on the way.

Adam's cover, on the other hand, is cheese to the max, which makes us throw up a little every time we see it. Pouty lips, yellow mascara and a terribly-dyed hair do not cut it for a great album cover, maybe except for Madonna. And what's with the galaxy background.

What do you think of the covers? Which one do you like better?

Chris Brown: He Can Transform Ya

We don't approve of Chris Brown here on Word-Vomiting. Mostly because of the annoying songs he releases, and the fact that he escapes jail time loses him mega cool points. Remember the shit he did to Rihanna?

It's only a matter of time before she covers Britney's "Hit Me Baby One More Time".

Stunning for your Time

ASOS Leather Perforated Lace-Up Shoes

While browsing the Internet on a boring Saturday afternoon, i stumbled upon these and I bought them without hesitation. Jefry said once I start, I'd never stop. I don't know how true that statement would be for me but I'm sure not gonna stop if there are more sales like these. I'm planning to be the lady who lived in her shoes.

True enough, I continued my online spree. I can now list wasting money online as my new hobby. While browsing Esty during a boring web design lesson on monday, i found the following brooches and bookmarked them so i could go home and purchase them with my credit card. omg they are so stunning!

Flower Brooch Pin Corsage and Tin of Tuna Brooch

i can't wait for everything to come so i can look so incredibly stunning, as if i'm already not stunning enough.

'Desperate Housewives' Recap: Don't Judge Me

Desperate Housewives Season 6 Episode 5: Everybody Ought to Have a Maid
source ABC

The theme of this week's episode is judgment, as Mary Alice observes, "It is in our nature to judge the people around us." I couldn't help but agree with my favorite suicidal narrator. Just this afternoon, I was making judgments about the obese family I'm staying with in Sydney. Mary Alice continues to share her wisdom with tv viewers, "We make these judgments all the time, never thinking that one day we may be judged ourselves," which is true as I will never know what my overweight tenants think about me for waking up at 3 p.m. I was busy writing Ugly Betty recap last night..

Lindsay Lohan at Ungaro

Estrella Archs and Lindsay Lohan at Ungaro's Spring 2010 show in Paris
source Harpers Bazaar

Lindsay Lohan has again stunned the world by assuming the role of Artistic Director at Ungaro. Like what the fuck does she know about fashion? i swore Heidi Klum rolled her eyes when she introduced Lindsay as a guest judge on Project Runway as a designer of her own label 6126 Leggings.

One thing that annoys me was how people assumed that Lindsay designed the Spring 2010 collection at Ungaro. Most reports write about how Lindsay does this, or what Lindsay did with the collection. All she did was to show her face, which looked coked out, on that faithful day.

If you're in the right state of mind, you would know that Lindsay Lohan did not really participate in the design process, despite what she said. I mean, she's too busy tweeting Samantha Ronson or picking up free merchandise from the Ungaro store in Paris to be sitting with Estrella Archs, the new Head Designer who replaced Esteban Cortazar.

I guess Archs' expression kinda sums it up for me.

ANTM Cycle 13

I guess we're kinda late posting about this season's ANTM because there are only 6 beautiful young ladies left, but I'm still gonna write about it so deal with it.

source LA Times

ANTM is amazing because it allows both of us to mock those girls every week. So before the next episode airs on television, I'm going to introduce the girls that we mock every week.

'Ugly Betty' Recap: It's Time To Take Amanda Seriously

Ugly Betty EP 3 Season 4: Blue On Blue
source ABC

Ugly Betty always struck me as a charming escapism, the colorful set designs and witty lines never fail to deliver. Hence the surprise when I learned about the sharp fall in ratings the show garnered thus far this season. The fan-favorite show is no longer the ratings powerhouse it once was. However, I'm glad to say that the quality of the show has not decrease one bit. In fact, I enjoyed this episode more than the season premiere.
